El presidente de Irán, Ebrahim Raisí, está desaparecido tras el accidente de su helicóptero en una zona montañosa del noroeste del país. “No hay nuevas noticias por el momento”, afirmó el portavoz del Gobierno, Ali Bahadori Jahromi, en su cuenta de X. Bahadori pidió paciencia y oraciones a los iraníes durante estos “momentos difíciles”.

Las autoridades no han explicado la causa del accidente en el que viajaban Raisí, el ministro de Exteriores, Hosein Amir Abdolahian, y otros altos cargos en la zona de Varzeqan, provincia de Azerbaiyán Oriental. El ministro del Interior, Ahmad Vahidi, confirmó el “aterrizaje forzoso” del helicóptero presidencial, que formaba parte de un convoy de tres aparatos; los otros dos llegaron sin problemas.

Un operativo con 46 equipos de rescate busca el helicóptero, pero las malas condiciones meteorológicas han dificultado las operaciones, según la Media Luna Roja. Los equipos aún no han llegado al sitio del “aterrizaje forzoso” en los bosques de Aras Baran.

Las condiciones climáticas adversas y el difícil acceso a la zona complican la búsqueda, imposibilitando el uso de drones y helicópteros. Cuatro equipos se han acercado a las coordenadas del accidente.

La televisión estatal mostró imágenes de los equipos de rescate trabajando bajo una densa niebla en terrenos montañosos. Mientras tanto, cientos de personas se congregaron en las ciudades sagradas de Mashad y Qom para rezar por el mandatario.

Raisí había inaugurado una presa en la frontera con Azerbaiyán junto a su homólogo azerbaiyano, Ilham Alíev, calificando el proyecto como un avance en las relaciones bilaterales.

El ultraconservador Raisí llegó al poder en 2021, con la participación electoral más baja en la historia de la República Islámica, intensificando la represión contra activistas, mujeres y críticos del régimen.
